The EVOLVE Study
Sponsor: Astellas
Trial Summary
This study is focused on people with Stargardt disease (STGD) and STGD-like macular dystrophies, inherited retinal conditions that affect the macula and can lead to progressive loss of central vision. STGD is most commonly caused by changes in the ABCA4 gene, while STGD-like conditions are linked to several other genetic mutations.
The purpose of this natural history study is to better understand how STGD and STGD-like macular dystrophies progress over time and whether these conditions follow similar patterns of vision loss. Researchers will use eye exams, imaging tests, and questionnaires to track changes over a 2-year period.
The study is also looking at several other research questions, including:
- How STGD-type macular dystrophies affect vision over time
- Whether STGD and STGD-like conditions progress in similar ways
- How information collected from the study can support the development of future treatments for these conditions
